zSTASH - encrypt your wealth
Mission
Enabling you to secure your wealth with maximum privacy.
Product
A non-custodial Zcash-centric desktop wallet with hardware wallet support and integrated DEX swaps.
Vision
Privacy comes from value at rest
Privacy comes from value at rest, not value in motion. Zcash is the best private store of value on the market. Allowing people to permissionlessly swap in and out of Zcash enables them to encrypt their wealth. However, in order to get good privacy and security, the ability to swap is not enough; problems like transport layer anonymization, timing and correlation attacks, client platform security, and other potential pitfalls have to also be considered.
What if the privacy properties of Zcash could be leveraged in such a way that most of the crypto asset universe could be used in a private fashion in order to store your wealth?
If wealth is stored in Zcash for a while, so that it's properly resistant against timing and correlation attacks, and then swapped with proper network layer anonymization permissionlessly into another crypto asset (for example, Bitcoin or Ethereum) on a fresh UTXO (or account), that crypto asset comes out of nowhere from a chain-analysis perspective. (Technically it comes from a DEX, but it's not tied to the user in any form.)
As an example, a fresh account on Ethereum is seeded with some ETH and USDC by such a swap, and the USDC is then deposited on Aave, earning yield. It's a private pool of money on Ethereum. If the USDC plus yield is later swapped back to Zcash, it cannot be tied back to the user.
Using this technique combined with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana means almost the entire crypto asset universe becomes investable in a private fashion.
Technology
Freshly developed, not a fork
Not a fork of an existing wallet, but a freshly developed native desktop app written in Rust, using Tauri and with librustzcash providing Zcash protocol functionality.
Why desktop matters
Censorship resistance
Given enough political pressure the Google and Apple duopoly could censor mobile Zcash wallets at any time, severely damaging the Zcash ecosystem.
Ecosystem resilience
Making the Zcash ecosystem more resilient by having another wallet option from an independent team and entity.
When?
None of the security-critical components of zSTASH contain AI-generated code. We follow a security-by-design and defense-in-depth strategy and will release only after successful completion of independent code and security architecture audits.
We'll release the first version once we have properly audited the source code.
